Advanced Access

Should you wish to use this system, every effort will be made to provide an appointment with a health care professional within 24 hours (though we cannot guarantee access to a particular doctor). If you consider your need is one of medical urgency, please tell the receptionist.

Our triage procedure is in place for those patients who would like a same-day appointment. Once you have requested an appointment you will be called back by the practice nurse and assessed ("triaged") to determine the degree of urgency your condition warrants. You will then be routed to the appropriate health care professional for treatment.

Every cigarette you smoke can shorten your life by an average of five and a half minutes. Giving up smoking is all about motivation. Set a date in the future when you are going to stop and tell all your friends so that they can support you in your decision. When the big day comes, plan carefully to keep yourself busy and try to avoid situations which may tempt you into having a cigarette. You could put aside the money that you would spend and save up to treat yourself. If you have tried everything and still want to give up, contact your doctor for extra help.

Cold and Flu Like Symptoms

Even in this day and age there is no magic cure for the common cold. Go to bed and take plenty of drinks. If you have a headache or are feverish, take aspirin or paracetamol. Antibiotics do not have any effect.

Child with a High Temperature

Remove all clothing and cool the skin by sponging with tepid water. Give small amounts of water or diluted juice to drink often. Give calpol, paracetamol or disprol syrup which is available from your local pharmacy.

If a temperature remains high, consult your doctor.
